The UAE will now have a vertiport flying taxi hospital at the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, which it announced on Wednesday.

The hospital stated that the vertiport will reduce the travel time between the Cleveland Clinic and surrounding areas, relative to ground transportation. The service would be applicable in cases of non-emergency patients or emergent organ transportation.

It was announced in collaboration with Archer Aviation, which indicated that its Midnight will have the ability to accommodate up to four passengers with less noise and reduced emissions than conventional helicopters.

The clinic’s Chief Executive, Dr Georges-Pascal Haber, said, “This new mode of emission-free transport aligns with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s commitment to sustainability, gives additional options to many patients travelling to our hospital for care, and provides our thriving organ transplant programme with fast logistics.”

The National has enquired about the vertiport, but no hint was given as to when it will be operational or not.

The UAE continues to advance the high-tech transport schemes, which encompass drones, driverless taxis, and air taxis.

It was announced last month that Ras Al Khaimah anticipates the introduction of its first passenger air taxi by 2027, alongside similar initiatives in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
