The UAE and Chad signed 18 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on Monday, on the sidelines of the UAE-Chad Trade and Investment Forum that took place in Abu Dhabi.
The signing of the agreements was done in the presence of His Excellency Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, President of the Republic of Chad, and His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.
The signed agreement is on the major sectors in the economy, such as energy, infrastructure, and industry sectors, which opened a new gate based on trade and investment between the two countries, as well as solidifying partnerships between the two countries in terms of development.
Another 21 MoUs were also signed by Chad and other international institutions and partners at the forum.
His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed confirmed that the partnership agreements point to the good bilateral relations between the UAE and Chad, and are an important milestone in the expansion of cooperation in the best interest of sustainable development.
However, the President Idriss Déby has stated that he is proud of the historical relations between Chad and the UAE and that the strategic partnership acts as the example of the successful collaboration that serves the interests of both countries as well as their friendly populations, by opening the way to the establishment of the comprehensive relationship benefiting the expertise of the UAE in energy, infrastructure and innovations.
The UAE-Chad Trade and Investment Forum in Abu Dhabi drew over 2,000 participants, including ministers, officials, investors, and multiple official delegations, on Monday.
The discussions revolved around expanding economic and trade cooperation between the two nations and pursuing some opportunities in fields like mineral resources, energy, responsible corporate development, collaborations, and agricultural and food value chains.
There is also the agenda of discussions on water and electricity projects, large-scale development financing, transport corridors, logistics services such as railways, ports, and airlines, as well as digital transformation, fiber network, and digital services development, human capital, education, health, tourism, cultural exchange, and mutual investment opportunities.
The President of Chad, Idriss Déby, announced the implementation of the country’s national development plan, Chad Connection 2030, during the opening ceremony of the UAE-Chad Trade and Investment Forum, which is expected to increase the openness to trade and investment in the country, promote its economic growth, and achieve overall development.
Chad defined its development needs and presented key strategic projects within Chad Connection 2030, comprising 268 projects related to energy, infrastructure, and industry.
Meanwhile, other agenda points made at the forum were the financial incentives, customs, and regulatory incentives used by Chad to attract local and international investors.
