SEHA, a subsidiary of PureHealth and the largest healthcare group in the Middle East, highlights the inspiring journey of Aarav, a 3-year-old boy diagnosed with mosaic trisomy 8, cleft palate, and congenital heart disease. His story reflects resilience, personalised multi-disciplinary care, and the exceptional clinical expertise provided by SEHA Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC).
At birth, Aarav was diagnosed with a ventricular septal defect (VSD) and underwent cardiac surgery on August 8, 2024, successfully correcting his heart defect.
Following surgery, Aarav developed pulmonary hypertension, which has been effectively managed through close monitoring. Recent echocardiography showed normal ventricular function with no residual VSD. While mild pulmonary hypertension persists, his condition is improving under low-dose sildenafil treatment. Aarav will continue regular follow-ups at the SKMC cardiac clinic, ongoing monitoring in the pulmonary clinic, and care in general paediatric clinics.
Dr. Aref Al Hakami, Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist at SEHA Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, said, “Through Aarav’s journey, we have witnessed the remarkable strength of this young patient and the unwavering dedication of our medical team. Aarav’s progress is a result of the collective and individual input, care, and support from multiple professions at SKMC, who are with us every step of the way.”
