Natural gas makes up around 70 percent of Mubadala Energy’s production portfolio, said Chief Operating Officer Adnan Bu Fateem, calling 2025 a “pivotal” year for the company’s international growth.

In remarks to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Bu Fateem noted that the company entered the U.S. market this year and advanced several strategic gas projects in Southeast Asia as part of a long-term strategy aimed at balancing global energy security with energy transition objectives.

He highlighted that natural gas remains a key component due to its lower emissions compared with more carbon-intensive energy sources.

“Mubadala Energy’s approach is based on long-term investments that generate stable returns across multiple geographies,” he said, adding that this diversification helps the portfolio withstand market volatility.

He explained that Mubadala Energy’s investment in the US Caturus natural gas and LNG portfolio provides exposure across the gas value chain in one of the world’s largest energy markets, complementing its assets in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Russia, and the United States.

Regarding projects, Bu Fateem said the company made significant progress on Indonesia’s Tangkulo gas field, while production from its flagship Pegaga project in Malaysia remained stable.

He also highlighted the company’s environmental and social efforts, noting a 36.5 percent reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions and over one million beneficiaries of its community programmes over the past decade.
