The first international conference on Green Artificial Intelligence, organized by the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment under the patronage of Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, in collaboration with the Dubai Police Academy and Curtin University Dubai, concluded in Dubai.
The event welcomed over 150 researchers and experts in the green economy from the UAE and abroad.
Held from January 24 to 25 under the theme “Harnessing Technology for Environmental Sustainability”, the conference featured 20 scientific papers and served as a platform for environmental specialists, AI experts, urban planners, and research institutions from the UAE, Bahrain, India, Australia, and the Arab region to discuss innovations promoting a sustainable future.
An exhibition at the conference showcased 22 student projects from various universities and schools, highlighting the use of AI to develop environmental solutions aligned with the UAE’s vision for sustainable development.
During the closing session, Professor Dr. Mohamed Ahmed bin Fahad, Chairman of the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment, highlighted that the gathering of experts, practitioners, and students reflected the UAE’s commitment to innovation. He emphasized that the conference illustrated the multidisciplinary collaboration required to address modern environmental challenges.
Key presentations included Dr. Anwar Dafa-Alla’s discussion on AI misinformation and the importance of fostering scientific critical thinking, and Prof. Pon Selvan’s insights on current environmental challenges and the role of green AI in enhancing protection and sustainability.
The exhibition also highlighted modern technologies in water and energy management, air quality monitoring, environmental forecasting, and smart agriculture. It provided students with a platform to present entrepreneurial projects, facilitating knowledge exchange and building scientific partnerships. Student initiatives showcased future applications of AI across various environmental domains.
Recommendations from the conference emphasized the promotion of AI in environmental sustainability, data security and privacy, and consideration of sustainability-related computing costs in AI development. Other suggestions focused on integrating sustainability into AI system design, developing eco-friendly sensors, promoting green building practices, controlling greenhouse gases, and advancing desert afforestation initiatives. Special attention was also given to encouraging youth participation and engagement.
Concluding the event, the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment announced that the next edition of the Dubai International Green Artificial Intelligence Conference will adopt the theme “Human-AI-Nature: A New Social Contract… Rethinking the relationship between humans, AI, and nature”. The upcoming edition aims to support environmental initiatives and develop innovative solutions that enhance community well-being, reflecting a spirit of integration in sustainability and green technology.
