Abbas Araghchi sharply criticized the United States during remarks delivered at the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, accusing Washington of pursuing coercive foreign policies and calling for greater unity among emerging economies.
Addressing ministers and delegates, Araghchi said Iran’s resistance against what he described as “US bullying” was a struggle familiar to many nations represented within the BRICS grouping.
“To virtually everyone in this room, our resistance against US bullying is not an unfamiliar battle,” Araghchi said.
He added that many countries continue facing similar forms of political and economic pressure and called for stronger collective action against such practices.
“It is high time for us to jointly step up and work towards making clear that those practices belong in the dustbin of history,” he stated.
The Iranian foreign minister also said relations among BRICS nations are becoming stronger amid shifting global geopolitical dynamics.
“Today, our nations are closer to one another than ever before, and we cannot ignore the common and dangerous challenge we all face,” Araghchi said.
In some of his strongest remarks, Araghchi warned that declining global powers may react aggressively to preserve their influence.
“History has shown that empires in decline will stop at nothing to arrest their inevitable fates. A wounded animal will desperately claw and roar on its way down,” he said.
The comments come amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States over sanctions, regional security, and nuclear policy, while BRICS nations continue discussing efforts to expand economic cooperation and reduce reliance on Western-led financial systems.
The BRICS grouping, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa alongside newer members, has increasingly positioned itself as a platform advocating for a multipolar global order and greater representation for emerging economies.
