In a swift and proactive operation, Al Raffa Police Station in Dubai recovered AED123,000 worth of stolen medical supplies and returned them to a surprised store owner, before he even realized anything was missing. The thefts, carried out over multiple incidents, targeted a warehouse linked to the store. No suspicious activity had been previously reported by the owner or staff.
Brigadier Ghalib Al Ghafli, Acting Director of Al Raffa Police Station, credited the success to the work of the ‘Intelligence and Security Teams’ Unit, working closely with station investigators. He highlighted the unit’s role in spotting vulnerabilities, collecting intelligence, and addressing local concerns as part of broader efforts to strengthen public safety and trust. “The resolution of this case underscores the effectiveness of these ongoing efforts,” he said.
Al Ghafli also noted, “The ‘Intelligence and Security Teams’ unit has achieved several significant milestones in the Al Raffa Police Station area since its establishment in 2023. These include receiving 1,333 security tips, successfully resolving 738 cases, and earning 27 certificates of appreciation from various internal and external organizations for its efforts in combating crime and addressing negative trends.”
According to Lieutenant Colonel Ali Al Awar, Head of the General Duty Section and leader of the ‘Intelligence and Security Teams’ Unit, the operation unfolded as officers observed suspicious behavior in the area while performing their routine duties alongside the investigations team. They legally intervened, leading to the discovery of individuals in possession of a large volume of medical items and pills.
“During the investigation, they discovered the individuals suspiciously had medical products and pills. When questioned about their origin and the large quantity, they confessed to stealing them from a medical supply store’s warehouse multiple times without anyone noticing,” Al Awar explained.
He also confirmed that the store owner was unaware of the thefts. “The Intelligence and Security Teams spoke with the store owner, who stated that neither he nor any staff knew the store was experiencing multiple thefts.” An inventory check revealed a total loss of AED123,000 in goods.
Further review of surveillance footage captured the suspects committing the thefts, and investigations also linked them to other related cases. “Additionally, investigations revealed their involvement in other theft cases,” Al Awar concluded.
